The Public is hereby notified that the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) permanently closed the operations of its Duty-Free Facility at the Grantley Adams Airport (GAIA) on March 31, 2021.
As of April 1, 2021, the Customs and Excise Department (CED) will be supporting the documentation processes previously undertaken by the Facility on behalf of Customs. All queries related to the processing of invoices (third schedule) as well as duty-free purchases should be directed to the CED (535-8841 or 535-8740).
The BCCI’s Duty-Free Facility was in operation for over 60 years having started in 1959, following the enactment of the legislation, ‘Drawback of Duties on Sale of Goods to Tourists Regulations, 1958’. Since its establishment, the Facility has provided services to local duty-free retailers on behalf of the CED; specifically, the handling of duty-free packages purchased by travelers, as well as the processing of volumes of third schedules (triplicate invoices) under the Drawback Scheme.
The BCCI thanks all duty-free stakeholders for their valued support over the years.
