BCCI Members Update #3 – Important Notice- Coronavirus

March 17, 2020

Dear Valued Member,

This morning, Barbados was advised by Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Col. Jeffrey Bostic that the country has identified its first two cases of the COVID-19, the virus that has spread worldwide.

As Stage 1 has been activated for Barbados which necessitates limiting public gatherings, the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has taken a decision to:

  1. Utilize technology as far as possible to substitute for face-to-face activities effective, March 17. In this regard, the informational session for members entitled, “What Businesses Need to Know: COVID 19” scheduled for March 18 at 9:00 – 11:00 am will be hosted via BCCI Facebook Live.
  2. Cancel the BCCI’s two major events that were scheduled for this month:
    • Mix ‘n Mingle slated for Friday, March 20 at Harrison’s Cave; and
    • Workshop hosted by the Chamber’s Customs Trade Facilitation Committee and the Customs and Excise Department and scheduled for the Accra Beach Hotel, on Tuesday, March 31.

While we regret having to postpone these events, we do so out of an abundance of caution and a desire to ensure the health and safety of our members and staff.

At this time, Barbados is on heightened alert and we urge you to protect your well-being and that of your staff, as well as your family and the wider community.

Finally, all sectors and individuals must play a part in ensuring that the country and businesses continue to function while we implement the necessary measures to minimize the impact and manage the risk associated with the virus.

Sincerely,

Misha Lobban-Clarke
Executive Director, BCCI
