The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) has designated Thursday, March 14, 2019 as National Earthquake Preparedness Day.

The Barbadian public is encouraged to conduct the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” earthquake drill within their home, school, business or community at 10:00 a.m. on the abovementioned date.

This national drill forms part of the activities to mark Coastal Hazards and Earthquake Smart Month, which is promoted annually in Barbados during the month of March. The objective of the national drill is to increase seismic awareness among the Barbadian community and to test individual’s earthquake procedures.

Participants are encouraged to upload photos or videos of their school, business or community practicing their respective earthquake procedure to social media, tagging the DEM (Department of Emergency Management) or by emailing the Department at [email protected].
