BCCI Gives to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Barbados

December 16, 2015

Following a successful 2015 Charity Golf Tournament at the Apes Hill Club, St. James, The Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) donated part proceeds to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Barbados (CFFB).

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening inherited disease caused by a single defective gene in both parents. CF creates a thick mucus which clogs the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, and results in chronic infections and inflammation in the lungs as well as difficulty digesting food.

Mr. Michael Turton President/Co-Founder of the CFFB accepted the cheque on behalf of the organization. He expressed great appreciation for the support and pledged that they would continue to do more where ever possible to assist those affected with this challenging disease.

Winner of the 2015 tournament Dr. Dexter James commented that it is always a pleasure to participate in such tournaments. Not only is it good on the social side and offers networking opportunities, there is also the opportunity to give back to the community and support charitable causes; something he is very keen on doing. Dr. James, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the QEH, agreed that though there are a few Cystic Fibrosis cases in Barbados due care and attention should still be given. He acknowledged that there is still room for research of the disease as well as services offered by the QEH to assist sufferers. He is also open to considering any partnerships that may arise to assist with the management of the disease.

The 2015 tournament was hailed as one of the most successful golf events that the Chamber has executed to date. With 64 golfers competing for prizes compliments Virgin Atlantic, The Crane Resort, Champers, Tapas Restaurant, Bansuri Spa, Sitar Restaurant, and Tiami Cruises who have all sponsored individual prizes. Golfers also had an additional incentive at each par 3; with an opportunity to win 5 cars from Barbados’ major car dealers: Nassco Limited, Simpson Motors, MQI, Courtesy and Platinum Motors.  Other participating sponsors include Ernst & Young, Brydens Stoke and Massy Distribution. Chairman of the golf tournament, Mr. Nicholas Mouttet, expressed his satisfaction with the execution of the tournament and indicated his interest in making it even bigger and better next year.

The BCCI wishes to once again thank all participants and sponsors and looks forward to assisting another charity at the next tournament.
